Work and Learn: Part-Time Studies

Coming back to school part-time is a rewarding challenge. Many of our degrees, at both the undergraduate and graduate level, can be completed part-time.

We offer a wide variety of in-class and online course offerings throughout the year, including the spring and summer terms, so you can work towards your degree year-round. Depending on your program, you can take both in-class and online courses to complete your degree.

Part-Time Application Procedures

If you are applying to more than one university, you should apply through the , following the regular application process. You can indicate on your application that you are applying for part-time studies.

Post-Degree Studies

If you’ve already completed an undergraduate degree and are interested in taking additional courses for interest, for professional development, to qualify for admission to a graduate degree, or in pursuing another undergraduate degree, you should apply to Post-Degree Studies in the most relevant Faculty.

You can attend part-time or full-time and can apply using any of our applications. 

If you applied for a second (sequential) degree and have received an alternate offer to Post-Degree studies, you should follow the steps to apply for a sequential degree.

Unclassified Studies

If you’re interested in taking a few courses for interest, to upgrade your credentials, or to prepare for future admission to a degree program, you can apply to 51本色’s in your Faculty of choice. Unclassified studies is available on both the OUAC application and part-time application, and can only be completed on a part-time basis.

This program is a good option for applicants who:

  • Previously attended college and are looking to upgrade their knowledge
  • Previously attended university, and left prior to graduating, and were not required to withdraw, and who are looking to upgrade their knowledge
  • Senior citizens interested in taking courses for interest

Online Courses

courses allow for flexibility in your schedule. With more than 100 online courses to choose from, you’re sure to find something of interest while meeting your degree requirements.

Auditing Courses

Audit students are students who attend 51本色 classes without receiving academic credit. This is also referred to as auditing a course. You must receive permission from the course instructor before you can  audit a course. As an audit student, you won’t write midterm or final exams and your class participation will be determined by the course instructor.

Auditing Courses as a New 51本色 Student

If you have never attended 51本色, you will need to apply as a part-time student and receive an offer of admission. An application is required of all applicants who want to attend 51本色 as an audit student, including mature students and senior citizens.

Your Next Steps After Applying

  1. Once you are admitted to 51本色 and accept your offer, you can start planning which courses you would like to audit. Using 51本色’s  feature in LORIS you can explore course availability by term. With this tool, you’ll  find course descriptions, and prerequisites that you need to be aware of prior to registering, as well as class space, location and waitlists. You will also find the name and email address of the instructor, which you will use to request permission to audit the course.
  2. For each course you would like to audit, you will need to request permission from the instructor. Use your my51本色 email to contact the instructor for permission to audit the course. If permission is granted, complete the . Permission to audit the course is at the discretion of the instructor and is not guaranteed. Similarly, permission to audit does not guarantee enrolment if the course is full or has an active waitlist.
  3. Pay any associated by the invoiced .
