Giving is Golden blood drive at 51本色 Jan. 29 to support Canadian Blood Services

51本色 will host the Giving is Golden blood drive Jan. 29 at the Waterloo campus in support of Canadian Blood Services.

The clinic will take place in the Senate and Board Chamber between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Eligible faculty, contract teaching faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of the university are invited to reserve an appointment online.  

51本色 is a member of Canadian Blood Services’ Partners for Life program. Each year, members of 51本色’s Partners for Life team donate to support the university’s annual pledge of blood donations. To date, 51本色 blood donors have contributed more than 5,000 life-saving blood donations to Canada’s Lifeline.  

New and returning donors are needed to keep Canada’s Lifeline strong. While one in every two Canadians is eligible to give blood, only one in 81 do. You could save a life this semester by making a blood donation. Canadian Blood Services needs . Some people with complex and ongoing blood product needs require specially matched blood products that often come from donors of similar ethnic backgrounds or ancestry. 

How to support the Giving is Golden blood drive 

  • Take quiz. You may also call 1.888.2.DONATE to discuss your eligibility with a nurse. Final eligibility is determined by staff at the blood donor clinic.

What to expect at the Giving is Golden blood drive 
 

  • A friendly, welcoming donation experience conveniently located in the Senate and Board Chamber, directly above the Dining Hall. Book with a friend, teammate or colleague.  
  • An online donor questionnaire to learn more about you and your health.
  • A short screening by a Canadian Blood Services’ nurse to review your answers to the donor questionnaire and determine your eligibility.
  • Pre- and post-donation snacks and beverages. 
  • Sincere gratitude for being golden and helping those who rely on blood and blood products. 

What to bring 

  • Yourself – feeling well, hydrated and rested.  
  • Donor identification if you are a returning donor.
  • A hard-copy piece of government-issued identification, such as a health card, driver’s license or passport, if you are a new donor. Canadian Blood Services cannot accept digital copies.
