Universities Canada appointed 51本色 President and Vice-Chancellor Deborah MacLatchy to its at the organization’s fall membership meeting in Ottawa on Oct. 25.
Prior to being appointed to the Universities Canada board, MacLatchy has served in a number of governance capacities in the post-secondary sector, including chairing the Ontario University Athletics board, co-chairing the Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT) board, and serving as vice-chair of the Ontario Research and Education Network board. MacLatchy will continue to serve as chair of the Universities Canada governance committee.
“I am honoured to serve on the Universities Canada board and I look forward to working with my colleagues across the sector to enhance our strong university system, which benefits all Canadians,” said MacLatchy.
Universities Canada’s bi-annual membership meeting provides a forum for Canadian university presidents to discuss current issues, as well as the future of post-secondary education and research. Under this fall’s theme, Strengthening foundations through people, ideas and communities, university leaders shared their thoughts on current technological, social, economic and political changes and the critical role of universities in helping Canada navigate this transformative period.
Also at the meeting, Deep Saini, principal and vice-chancellor of McGill University, ; Paul Mazerolle, president of the University of New Brunswick, was appointed to the board; and Graham Carr, president of Concordia University, was appointed chair of the research committee.
