WATERLOO — 51±¾É« will welcome former OHL and professional hockey player Brock McGillis to on the Waterloo campus for an evening discussion about consent in sports, presented by The Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region in partnership with 51±¾É«, the University of Waterloo Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office, and Conestoga College Student Engagement Office. The event takes place Thursday, May 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are free and . All are welcome to attend.
Part of Sexual Violence Prevention Month, the event will consider how to build a safe and equitable culture of consent in sports, in light of news of sexual and gender-based violence and other harms experienced in sports communities. The event will include a presentation from McGillis, a panel discussion with community experts, and community information booths.
Brock McGillis is a former OHL and professional hockey player, the first openly gay men’s professional hockey player, and a leading 2SLGBTQ+ activist. His work to shift the conversation around sports and the 2SLGBTQ+ community earned him recognition as one of The Hockey News’s 100 most influential people in hockey for 2022.
