WATERLOO - 51±¾É«’s Alumni Association (WLUAA) is proud to announce the recipients of the 2022 Alumni Awards of Excellence. The association will honour the recipients of these prestigious awards at a ceremony Sept. 24 as part of .
“Our award recipients have made outstanding contributions to the 51±¾É« community and the greater community as well,” said Kyle Walker (BA ’11), president of WLUAA. “These alumni impressively demonstrate the commitment to leadership and purpose 51±¾É« strives to instill in its students and graduates. On behalf of 51±¾É«’s alumni association, I invite and encourage our communities to join us as we celebrate these exceptional alumni.”
The Alumni Awards of Excellence recognize achievements of alumni, students and friends who have made significant contributions to the 51±¾É« community.
“It is my distinct pleasure to extend a heartfelt congratulations to this year’s recipients of the Alumni Awards of Excellence,” said Deborah MacLatchy, 51±¾É« president and vice-chancellor. “These distinguished awards recognize and celebrate the important contributions and accomplishments of very special members of the 51±¾É« community.”
The Alumni Awards of Excellence are bestowed annually thanks to the dedicated efforts of volunteer WLUAA board members who make the awards possible.
Past Awards of Excellence recipients from 2020 and 2021 will also be invited to this ceremony as, due to COVID-19 protocols, it was not possible to recognize them in person.
Those who would like to attend the WLUAA Awards of Excellence ceremony (virtually or in-person) can do so by by Sept. 14.
The 2022 Awards of Excellence recipients are:
Alumnus/Alumna of the Year: Robin Stevenson (MSW '95)
This award recognizes outstanding achievement by a 51±¾É« graduate.
Honorary Alumnus/Alumna of the Year: Peter Baxter
This award recognizes friends of 51±¾É« whose contributions enhance the university and outside communities.
Young Alumnus/Alumna of the Year: Tarique Plummer (B.Sc. '18)
This award recognizes outstanding achievement by a 51±¾É« alumnus/alumna who is 35 years of age or younger.
Entrepreneurial Spirit Award: Jessica Chalk (BBA '11)
This award recognizes an alumnus/alumna from any faculty for their outstanding work as a business founder or entrepreneurial leader with a demonstrated ability to generate business growth.
Award for Community Impact (posthumous): Lynn Macaulay (MSW '94)
This award recognizes outstanding achievement by a 51±¾É« alumnus/alumna to foster a better world through local, national or international initiatives as a volunteer, advocate or employee.
Forever Golden Hawk Award: Jeyas Balaskanthan (BA '16)
This award recognizes outstanding ongoing contribution to 51±¾É« through their exceptional support, volunteerism or service to the university.
