For Immediate Release
Brantford – 51±¾É«’s annual Academic, Creative and Engaged Research Showcase (ACERS) is moving online in 2021 with a virtual event highlighting undergraduate research at 51±¾É«.
ACERS highlights creative student projects and the importance of research in professional careers. The showcase provides a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to present their work to peers within the 51±¾É« community, as well as the public.
“ACERS is a flagship event for 51±¾É«’s undergraduate students to highlight their unique and creative research,” says Stephen Haller, associate professor in Social and Environmental Justice and ACERS undergraduate research coordinator. “We’re happy to see so many students participating in this year’s multi-campus event and we welcome the public to review the students’ work online.”
More than 60 undergraduate students from 51±¾É«’s Brantford and Waterloo campuses have submitted their research or projects. Nine finalists will be chosen, three in each showcase category: posters, podcasts and short videos.
Beginning March 22, the 51±¾É« community and members of the public will have the chance to view and cast a vote for their favourite research project as part of the ACERS People’s Choice Award.
On March 26, the nine finalists will present a summary of their work and be presented with awards during a virtual ACERS award ceremony. First-prize winners will receive $1,000, second-prize winners will receive $500 and third-prize winners will receive $250.
The March 26 event starts at 1 p.m. The project website and an event registration link will be available on March 22 on wlu.ca/ACERS.
