The Career Development Centre has guidelines for employers who recruit at 51±¾É«. Review the guidelines below prior to posting a position.

General Guidelines

• All organizations recruiting at 51±¾É« are expected to comply with all applicable federal, provincial and municipal regulatory and legal requirements. We also encourage employers to follow the recruitment guidelines recommended by the (CACEE).
• The 51±¾É« Career Development Centre reserves the right to prohibit an employer from participating in any of its events and/or services based on student complaints, behaviour or actions by the employer contrary to the employer guidelines, and for other reasons deemed necessary by 51±¾É« Career Centre staff, such as human rights violations or breach of contract. It is not the role of the 51±¾É« Career Centre to monitor the recruiting practices of employers. However, if there are student complaints regarding an organization’s recruiting practices, the Career Centre will investigate.
• The Career Development Centre encourages all employers recruiting at 51±¾É« to express their commitment to diversity and inclusion on job descriptions by inviting applications from all qualified 51±¾É« students and alumni, including persons in a visible minority, persons with disabilities and Indigenous people. Employers are also encouraged to identify physical accessibility requirements on job postings.

Posting Job Opportunities

• The Career Development Centre reserves the right to decline posting positions of external employers to the university.
• The Career Development Centre will not approve job postings for positions that require applicants to pay a fee to secure the position (including start-up fees) unless it is listed in the posting.
• Job postings from franchise organizations must include pertinent job information such as remuneration details, extra fees/start-up costs, contract requirements and potential financial penalties for contract cancellation.
• Job postings with straight commission-based compensation plans must note that information in their posting descriptions.
• We do not post unpaid internships unless they comply with local labour laws (e.g. ).

Third-Party Recruiters

• Third-party recruiters, as defined by the CACEE, are considered to be agencies, organizations or individuals recruiting students for employment opportunities with other organizations.
• Third-party recruiters are required to disclose the name of the employers they represent to Career Development Centre staff on a confidential basis. This information will not be released to students unless permission to release is granted by the third-party recruiter.
• In situations where a duplicate position is posted by an employer and a third-party recruiter, the posting of the employer will be posted.

Employer Recruiting Booth

• Employers may request space on the campus to set up a recruiting booth (display table) for the purpose of promoting their active job postings. Requests must be made through the Career Development Centre.
• Because of limited space and the large number of requests we receive, bookings are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Book early to avoid disappointment.
• One booth per academic term will be booked at no charge (including cancellations). If an organization wishes to arrange more than one booking per term, there will be an administrative fee of $100 per additional booking, payable prior to the booking date. No refunds will be issued for cancellations.

Recruiting Sessions

• The Career Development Centre arranges recruiting sessions. All room requests must be booked through this department. Media resources requirements are to be made through the Career Development Centre and are provided free of charge. Food and refreshment requirements (Waterloo campus) are to be made through and are payable directly to Food Services.
• Because of limited space and the large number of requests we receive, each employer is restricted to reserving a maximum of three sessions per school term (including cancellations).
• Three sessions per academic year will be allowed with no charge. If an organization wishes to arrange more than three sessions in a year, there is an administrative fee of $100 per additional session (to a maximum of six bookings per year), payable prior to the booking date. No refunds will be issued for cancellations.

Interview Space

• All interview room reservations must be arranged through the Career Development Centre. A minimum of two days’ notice is required to arrange a booking.
• Requests for rooms for on-campus interviews is granted on a first-come, first-served basis.
• If employers have requested the Career Development Centre to schedule interviews, a list of candidates (51±¾É« students and/or alumni) must be provided at least two days before the date of the interviews, including the requested length of each interview, the start and end time of the interviews, and any break times that should be scheduled for the interviewers.

Posters and Signs

• The Career Development Centre will post poster(s)/sign(s) in the centre and on the centre’s bulletin boards throughout campus (maximum of seven available boards).
• If employers wish to post signs directly on other bulletin boards throughout campus, these posters must be approved first by the Career Development Centre, then by the vice-president, Student Affairs’ office (Waterloo) or the Dean of Students office (Brantford) prior to being hung.
• Organizations may hang a maximum of 25 posters and these may only be put on designated bulletin boards as outlined by the vice-president, Student Affairs’ office.
• Do not hang posters on restricted bulletin boards, walls, doors, windows or the outside of buildings. No promotional materials (lawn signs, free-standing neon signs, etc.) are permitted on the grounds of the campus.

Classroom Visits

• Organizations may not conduct recruitment presentations in classes without consultation with the Career Development Centre and subsequent permission from professors. The Career Development Centre reserves the right to restrict recruitment activities at 51±¾É« for failure to abide by this policy.

Communication with Students

• The Career Development Centre requests that employer organizations be clear in communication to students regarding their job opportunity(ies) and details regarding recruiting sessions.
• The Career Development Centre also asks that students invited to a recruiting session be clearly informed of the session details including the organization’s name, date, time, location and the job opportunities being presented at the session.
• If students are being misinformed of session and job details, the Career Development Centre reserves the right to restrict recruitment activities at 51±¾É«.
