The Lazaridis School of Business and Economics at 51本色 invites applicants for a Tier II Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Corporate Governance. This is a full-time, tenure-track position in the Policy Area. This area includes faculty in strategy, entrepreneurship, international business, business law and sustainability. The appointment will be made at the rank of assistant professor or a tenured position at the rank of associate professor to begin, pending CRC approval.
Candidates must have an established externally-funded research record with demonstrated potential of becoming a global leader in corporate governance research. The candidate should have a record that includes research pertinent to high growth technology firms or they should demonstrate the willingness and potential to transition into this field. Applicants will have completed their doctoral studies in general management and have an emerging academic record with recognized potential for leadership in their field. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a highly productive research program and provide effective teaching of Policy Area courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. The successful candidate will also play a leadership role within the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics and the recently established Lazaridis Institute for the Management of Technology Enterprises.
The primary focus of the proposed Tier II CRC will be collaborative, interdisciplinary research on the major issues of corporate governance within the fields of the Policy Area. The research will apply to growing technology firms and influence thinking of policy makers, corporate leaders and institutional investors. This involves developing and publishing research on a broad range of governance issues that includes but is not limited to: executive compensation; board composition, evolution and governance; global governance; board effectiveness; CEO succession; legislative and regulatory changes related to governance; director fiduciary responsibilities; shareholder and stakeholder activism; proxy voting.
The CRC will be expected to actively participate in the Lazaridis Institute for the Management of Technology Enterprises (LI). LI is focused on solving a specific national challenge — the need for more globally competitive technology companies in Canada. LI’s approach to this complex problem is three-fold: (i) It supports Canadian technology companies in reaching their next level of growth, through world-class programs like the Scale-Up Program, and a global network of business and technology experts who provide mentorship, connections, and valuable experience. (ii) It supports insightful research to develop new knowledge about management issues pertinent to high growth technology companies. (iii) It creates direct links between international research, best practices in global scaling, and curriculum to empower students with the knowledge they need to make a difference in emerging companies after graduation.
Tier II Canada Research Chairs, tenable for five years and renewable once, are intended for exceptional emerging scholars who were granted their PhD less than 10 years prior at the time of nomination. Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree (and where career breaks exist including maternity, parental or extended sick leave, clinical training, etc.) may have their eligibility for a CRC Tier II assessed through the program’s Tier II Justification Process. Please contact Ildiko de Boer, Acting Manager, Office of Research Services at ideboer@wlu.ca with any questions about the Tier II justification process. This nomination is subject to review and final approval by the Tri-Agency Institutional Programs Secretariat in Ottawa. Contingent on success of the CRC nomination, the successful applicant will be offered a position at the rank of assistant or associate professor. More information on the CRC program including eligibility criteria can be found at .
