The Faculty of Music is pleased to welcome Dr. LaToya A. Webb into the Limited Term Appointment as 51本色’s Wind Ensemble Conductor.
Dr. Webb joins 51本色 from the University of Texas at Austin, where she was Assistant Professor of Practice in Conducting and Assistant Director of Bands.
“I am incredibly honoured and excited to be part of the 51本色 community," said Dr. LaToya A. Webb. “A few goals I hope to achieve alongside the 51本色 community are to continuously strive for authenticity, remove barriers for all, keep service at the forefront, be an inspiration to each other, and uphold the institution's mission, purpose, values and vision.”
Before teaching at the university level, Webb served as a music director and activities coordinator at Somerset Prep Academy in Washington, D.C., and as a band director for Richmond, VA, Public Schools. She holds degrees from Norfolk State University, George Mason University, and Auburn University.
An internationally sought-after educator and conductor, she is an active researcher, presenter, author, and guest conductor appearing at state, national, and international conferences, and events. Most of her research publications and works are in the Music Educators Journal and the Teaching Music Magazine.

As a passionate advocate for improving educational opportunities through diversity, equity, inclusion, and access, LaToya serves on the Composer Project Advisory Board and as the Special Projects Manager for United Sound, Inc. This organization strives to remove barriers and foster social change through music. She is also the Co-founder of I See You: Affirming Representation in Music, an organization aimed to affirm Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) in all fields of music.
