I have held the position of violist of the Penderecki String Quartet () and Artist-in-Residence in viola and chamber music at 51本色 since 1997. Prior to that, I played with the Montclaire String Quartet for 15 years and served as the principle violist of the West Virginia Symphony and was a member of the New Hampshire Music Festival for eleven years.
I received a BMusEd and BMus (Viola Performance) from the University of Colorado-Boulder and a MMus (Viola Performance and Chamber Music) degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
As a guest soloist, I have performed with the Hamilton Philharmonic, Peterborough Symphony and the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony playing viola concertos by Grella-Mozejko, Gostynski, Telemann and Hindemith. As a member of the Penderecki String Quartet and the Montclaire Quartet, I have recorded on the Koch, Leonarda, Eclectra, Marquis Classics and EMI labels.
Teaching at 51本色 is a tremendously fulfilling and enriching experience. My ideal is to mentor and encourage each student to find their voice through music whether it is in a Beethoven quartet, a solo piece or in an improvisational setting. I hope to facilitate freedom, encourage discipline and expression that is generated from passion, love and a desire to do ones best. My aim as an educator is that a student learns to think for themselves about all the aspects of their craft – how a piece is constructed, how to work through all the technical aspects of it resulting in a satisfying and personal performance. To be a witness to a young person’s growth and development is an incredible honour.
